Notes for a speech by Millicent Garrett Fawcett

Scope and Content

Manuscript notes, seventeen sheets and two smaller sheets. Notes for a public meeting, 5 Feb 1915. Six months into the war, discusses the old fallacies that have been disproved: German invincibility; that Britain was effete; that the French while brilliant in attack were lacking in dogged determination; that women were no use in war time. (On p.3 two press cuttings: 'The German Raid on West Hartlepool, Vigilance Record, Jan 1915, and 'Emerson on England', The Times, 22 Oct 1914.) Also with press cutting: The Times, 29 Oct 1914, 'Spirit of the Indian Troops'.
