Scope and Content

Manuscript notes, five sheets, one loose typescript sheet and a press cutting attached. Headed 'Emergency Resolution, Spring 1917'. Discusses a unanimous resolution inspired by the Speaker's Electoral Reform Conference: 'That we representing the undersigned societies, recognizing that a Bill based on the recommendations of the Speaker's Conference will confer the suffrage on women though not upon the terms for which we stand, urge the Government to introduce such a bill without delay, provided that is contains as an integral part provisions for the enfranchisement of women'. Comments: 'I personally think it would be of quite enormous value to our cause if we could get the proposals of Speaker's Conference transformed into an Act of Parliament'. Attached is a typed version of this resolution on headed NUWSS paper, with a manuscript note by MGF: 'Carried with one dissentient'. Press cutting, 8 Feb 1917, from 'Public Business' reports in The Times.
