Scope and Content

Photocopy of manuscript letter. Written from 2 Gower Street. Dated 11 Jan, no year. 'Dear Lady Frances, Isn't this 2 to 1 majority magnificent? You will be very interested in the division list [???] that Ld Salisbury voted with us. Young Lord Grey was very keen. Lord Selbourne surpassed himself and made a really splendid speech. We had an anxious time almost up to the end. But of course Curzon's speech mad it quite evident that we were safe. Lord Lytton got us the loan of a Comm[itt]ee room at the H of L so the comm[itt]ee was there. Mrs Strachey and I were inside the House and Mrs S kept running in from time to time to tell our committee how we were getting on'.
