Minutes of Board and Shareholder's meetings, 1941-1973; financial records, 1888-1976; correspondence and papers, 1904-1975; manuscript rule books and amendments, 1902-1970. Much of the correspondence derives from the liquidator's activity, rather than from the business of Macclesfield Silk.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Macclesfield Silk Manufacturing Society Limited was registered as an industrial society in 1888. Its name was changed to Macclesfield Silk and Textiles Ltd in 1960. Its members decided to go into voluntary liquidation in 1972. As part of that process its name was changed to Maccclesfield Holdings Society Limited. Its manufacturing activities could then be reorganised as a subsidiary company, Macclesfield Silk and Textiles Limited, which was sold separately from the Society's property and other assets. The Society's final meeting was held on 24 October 1975.
