Papers of the Committee for Research into Teacher Education
Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The Committee for Research into Teacher Education was set up in the 1960s by a triumvirate of the Universities Council for the Education of Teachers (UCET), the Association of Teachers in Colleges and Departments of Education (ATCDE) and the National Federation for Education and Research (NFER). Representation comprised three members of UCET research committee, three members of ATCDE research committee and three representatives of NFER. Representation included the director of NFER and the chairmen of the two research committees. It was an informal grouping and never adopted a formal constitution. The remit of the committee was to foster and facilitate research into teacher education. At that time this field was relatively unexplored.
