Scope and Content

The bundle contains a variety of papers relating to the militia: printed regulations for volunteer cavalry corps (EGR4/1/2/33/1); correspondence relating to the hand-over of men to the Inspecting Field Officer for Salop District and to the appointment of a new I.F.O. for Cheshire (/2-3, /15-16, /21-23); correspondence concerning an offer by R.H. Bradshaw for the use of Bridgewater Canal vessels to transport troops and supplies (/6-8 & /10); correspondence re arrangements for balloting for the Army of Reserve (/11, /14, /17-19, /26-28); papers re conditions of service for volunteer infantry corps (/12-13 & /29); a list of volunteer corps in Cheshire, with additions by George Harry Grey (1737-1819), 5th Earl of Stamford, (/24-25); and papers concerning the appointments of deputy lieutenants and divisional inspectors (/4-5 & /9).
