Scope and Content

Survey of the state of poor persons' bedding in Altrincham, Dunham Town, Oldfield, Dunham Woodhouses, Sinderland, Bowdon and Bollington. In each township or hamlet households are consecutively numbered, and the following information is provided: name of the head of household, number of people in the household, number of beds, and a detailed description of the bedding (including numbers of blankets, rugs and sheets, their state of cleanliness and repair).

The survey was originally compiled on 8 September 1786, with additional lists made in 1787, 1788, 1789, 1790 and 1791. At the back of the volume are alphabetical lists of persons whose bedding was examined in each township or hamlet.
