Scope and Content

The roll records proceedings at sessions of the court leet and view of frankpledge for the barony of Dunham Massey during the minority of George Booth (1566-1652). The roll consists of 2 parchment membranes (A & B) sewn together head-to-foot. The text runs from the head of membrane A to the foot of membrane B on the recto, then from the head to the foot of membrane A on the verso.

Heading: View of frankpledge with [court] leet of Queen Elizabeth, and court baron of the manor of Dunham Massey, held at Altrincham on [-] October 26 Eliz [1584], [on behalf of Robert Dudley, Earl of] Leicester, guardian of George Booth, [son and heir of Sir William Booth (1540-79) dec'd], now in the hands of the Crown [by reason of his minority, before] George Parker of Altrincham, steward of the court, 1584 (extensive loss of text).
