Scope and Content

Inventory and valuation of household furniture, farming stock, horses, carriages and other property at Dunham Massey belonging to the late George Harry [Grey (1737-1819), 5th] Earl of Stamford. The valuation was made by Nathaniel Pass and completed on 28 July 1819. Whereas EGR7/17/3 is arranged room-by-room, the items in the present volume are listed and valued by category under the following headings, with totals:

Household furniture and furnishings, ornaments, kitchenware etc. £3954 3s 11d

Linen and china £422 15s 2d

Horses and carriages £588 3s 6d (£250 deducted from this sum for carriages given to the Dowager Lady Stamford).

Farming stock (livestock, grain, cart horses, implements etc.) £2069 6s 6d

Stock of wine (showing number and value of bottles of each type in stock) and ale £2726 13s 2d

Silver plate weighing 23387 oz. (not itemized) £6821 6s 11d

Moiety of 5 brood mares, 6 colts, Sir Oliver etc. £166 15s

Wearing apparel (not itemized) £50

Total [calculated]: £16789 4s 2d

The difference of over £2500 between the totals given in EGR7/17/3 and EGR7/17/4 may in part be accounted for by the omission of the stock of wine and ale from the former.
