Bowdon Leases for Lives

Scope and Content

Individual tenements or holdings are numbered up to 25 in the leases below, although tenement number 17 is not represented.

Dating: the majority of leases date from the period 1700-1844, with single examples from 1662 (EGR14/2/5/85), 1676/7 (EGR14/2/5/28) and 1691 (EGR14/2/5/65), and two leases from 1696 (EGR14/2/5/29 & /75). There are also a lease and counterpart lease, and a draft thereof, from 1850 (EGR14/2/5/46-47).

Acquisition Information

All items were received from the Stamford Estate Office in Altrincham on 24 January 1992, except for the following which were received in April 1981: EGR14/2/5/3, /10-12, /16, /22, /25, /27, /32, /34, /39, /45-47, /58, /63-64, /69, /73, /78, /84, /91-92, /100-101, /107, /110, /113 & /117-119.
