Scope and Content

Property: a capital messuage and tenement in Dunham Massey and Warburton, with fields thereto belonging called the Daysie Croft, the Great Broadfield, the Little Broadfield, the Clough adjoining the Broadfield, the Bottom of the Broadfield, the Little Broad Eye, the Little Meadow at the head of the Bend Eyes, part of Hermitts Fough and a moiety of the Janney Field, all being in Dunham Massey, and the Westell Acre in Warburton (20 a.); also a leasehold estate in Dunham Woodhouses within Dunham Massey containing fields called the Cowhey, the Gorsey Field and a moiety of the Janney Field (4 a.). The above were purchased by George Booth (1675-1758), 2nd Earl of Warrington, from Isaac Ottiwell of Dunham Massey yeo on 12-13 June 1721, consideration £900 for the freehold and £150 for the leasehold.

The bundle comprises: feoffments of lands in Dunham Massey and Warburton from William Bowdon of Dunham Massey gent and Edward Bowdon of Millington gent to James Johnson alias Ottiwell of Stretford co. Lancs yeo, 1654 (EGR14/1/51/1-2); lease for 3 lives of fields in Dunham Woodhouses from Henry Booth (1651-94), 2nd Baron Delamer, to James Ottiwell of Dunham Massey gent, 1686/7 (/3); mortgage by James Ottiwell to Richard Legh of High Legh gent and Lucy, his wife, with a bond, 1687 (/4-5); successive assignments of the mortgage from Richard and Lucy Legh to Thomas Hunt of Dunham Massey gent, 1691, John Lever of Manchester co. Lancs esq, 1702/3, Thomas Walton of Dunham Massey gent, 1706, and Henry Wright of Offerton esq, 1715 (/6-9); estimate of the value of Isaac Ottiwell's estate in April 1721 (/10); agreement for sale from Isaac Ottiwell to Lord Warrington, surrender by Ottiwell and his mortgagee of the leasehold estate, assignment of a term of years in trust to attend the inheritance, and conveyance of the freehold estate by lease and release from Ottiwell to Lord Warrington, 1721 (/11-15); statements of account for Isaac Ottiwell's estate, 1721 (/16-17); ABSTRACT of title from 1654 to 1721 (/18).
