Letter

Scope and Content

Letter from John White to Lord Grey. Discusses the Captain Swing riots. If prompt measures had been taken in the first place at Ashton under Lyne and Stalybridge, order would have been restored long since, but the magistrates and police were intimidated. J.W. himself has received threats against his life. Agrees with Lord Grey that everyone should come forward at this time. The Glossop district is now quieter.
