Scope and Content

Letter from Isaac Worthington to Lord Stamford (/2). Describes in detail proceedings at a county meeting held at Northwich today to consider the nomination of two persons to represent the county in the next Parliament. Mr [Thomas] Cholmondeley [of Vale Royal] and Mr [William] Egerton [of Tatton] were nominated. The retiring Member, Mr [John] Crewe [of Crewe], was thanked for his services.

Enclosed is a newspaper cutting (/3) containing a notice to the gentlemen, clergy and freeholders of Cheshire, asking them not to promise their votes to any candidate except Cholmondeley or Egerton, in the event of a vacancy occurring in the county's representation.
