Scope and Content

Map of the entire township of Altrincham surveyed for the purposes of Altrincham Local Board of Health. The map shows the outlines of buildings, roads and paths, the Manchester, South Junction & Altrincham Railway, fields, gardens, parks and commons. Each parcel of land is numbered. Superimposed onto the printed map is the network of sewers and water mains, annotated to record the diameters of pipes and sewers.

The map appears to have been employed by the Stamford Estate Office in Altrincham to show the pattern of tenure in the township: parcels of land are colour-coded to show land held on lease [for lives] in yellow, land held on rack rent in green, land held on chief rent in brown, and land held on lease for 21 years in purple.

Acquisition Information
