Scope and Content

Personal and family papers of George Harry Grey (1737-1819), 5th Earl of Stamford, consist of: a bundle of pedigrees and other papers relating to his admission to the House of Lords, 1767-9 (EGR4/1/11/1); the licence for the marriage of his daughter Henrietta to Sir John Chetwode bart, and a copy of a legal opinion concerning the licence's validity, 1785 (EGR4/1/11/2-3); a bundle of correspondence relating to claims to the baronetcy and the Barony of Delamer, 1783, 1796-1802 (EGR4/1/11/4); an almanac, 1785 (EGR4/1/11/5); a letter discussing the executorship of the will of Lady Anne Acton, 1786 (EGR4/1/11/6); a bundle of papers relating to the centenary of the Glorious Revolution, 1788 (EGR4/1/11/7); a letter of condolence to the Countess of Stamford on the death of her son Henry, 1799 (EGR4/1/11/8); two letters to Lord Stamford from his former ward John Grey, 1808 (EGR4/1/11/9); eight letters from Lady Stamford to Lord Stamford, 1812 (EGR4/1/11/10-11); and a diary with enclosures, 1816 (EGR4/1/11/12).
