Scope and Content

From George Booth to [Peregrine Gastrell] the Chancellor of the Diocese of Chester. G.B. gives notice that he has ordered the farmers in his demesne lands in Mottram [in Longdendale] parish, who "have never in the memory of man paid any Church lays", not to pay the lays which have been demanded of them. G.B. also claims that the matter does not lie within the privilege of the Chancellor's Court.
