The bundle contains nine letters from J. Compton Hall to William Grey (1850-1910), 9th Earl of Stamford, and two copy letters from Lord Stamford to Compton Hall (EGR7/20/3/5 & /10). The correspondence concerns the completion of the restoration of Dunham Massey Hall, the restoration of St Margaret's Church, Dunham Massey, an account of the history of Dunham Massey Hall written by Compton Hall with Lord Stamford's encouragement, and the possibility of further information on the history of the Hall being found among the estate papers stored at Ashton under Lyne.
