The bundle contains papers relating to the conveyance of a strip of land in Catherine Road in Bowdon to Dr Cyril Atkinson. The strip, adjacent to Atkinson's house, was conveyed to him in consideration of a proposal by the Stamford Trustees to abandon Catherine Road in order to facilitate a sale of land for building purposes to Mr H[enry] D[ennis] O'Hanlon. The Stamford Trustees undertook to prevent O'Hanlon from building his house within a certain distance of Atkinson's house. However, a dispute arose when Atkinson claimed that the abandonment of Catherine Road entitled him to be released from the road-making covenant in his original deed. The bundle contains correspondence between Atkinson, O'Hanlon, W.D. Bullock at the Stamford Estate Office in Altrincham, and Messrs Trower, Still, Freeling & Parkin, solicitors to the Stamford Trustees.
