Scope and Content

Copy letter from E. Marshall, [War Office], to Major General [J.] Gardiner. If a colonel of yeomanry dies then his private property is liable for any deficiency in the public funds of the corps arising from his default. Any surplus of funds is not considered his private property, but is to be paid over by his executors to his successor.

The copy letter is annotated "Copy of a Letter from The | War Office" in the hand of the 6th Earl of Stamford. The wrapper is annotated "14 November 1835 | Major General Gardiner | Yeomanry Cavalry | Funds" in the hand of the 6th Earl of Stamford.
