The bundle contains circular letters and papers sent by Henry Dundas, Secretary of State for War, to George Harry Grey (1737-1819), 5th Earl of Stamford. The papers set out emergency measures to be adopted against the threat of invasion, such as the establishment of local armed associations and pioneer corps in country districts, the evacuation of live and dead stock from areas of the country at risk from invasion, and mechanisms for the supply of provisions to British forces. The Government asks for returns of live and dead stock, of available means of transport, and of men between the ages of 15 and 60.
