Scope and Content

Four letters from "Tazzy" [Henrietta Cavendish, Countess of Stamford] to her husband [George Harry Grey (1737-1819), 5th Earl of Stamford]:

/1: Dated 5 April (a.m.). Discusses personal and family matters.

/2: Dated 5 April (p.m.). Encloses a letter from Mrs John Grey (now missing). Lady Stamford intends to become the patroness of the Society in the County of Chester for Promoting Christianity Amongst the Poor Jewesses. Discusses family and personal news.

/3: Dated 6 April. Discusses personal and family matters.

/4: Dated 7 April. Lady Stamford and Louisa [their daughter Louisa Grey (1771-1830)] have reached Oxford on their journey to London. Letter continued on 8 April (a.m.) as they are about to set off for London.

The wrapper is addressed "To | the Earl of Stamford | Benson".

Dated at: Enville (/1-3) and the Star Inn, Oxford (/4).
