Discusses the negotiations between H.G. and the addressee's father [Rev Francis Henry White] over the marriage of H.G.'s son William Grey (1819-72) and F.H.W.'s daughter Harriet White. "Your father & I have had much interesting correspondence on the subject which so nearly concerns his family & mine. The prospect as to the completion of the wishes of the parties concerned are very unpromising."
