Scope and Content

Photographic reproduction of an oval half-length portrait drawing of Rev Henry White of Fyfield co. Hants (1733-88), [brother of Rev Gilbert White, and great grandfather of William Grey, 9th Earl of Stamford]; the drawing, done in pencil or charcoal on paper, was in the possession of Henry White's grandson John Edward White esq.

Photographer: E.C. Youens, 17 Tower Road, Dartford, [Kent] (embossed on board mount).

Annotated "The Rev Henry White of Fyfield, Hants b. 1733 d. 1788. from a drawing in the possession of J.E. White Esq (his grandson)" in ink in the hand of the 9th Earl of Stamford.

Bibliography

A reproduction of the portrait appears in Rashleigh Holt-White, Life and letters, vol. 2, facing p. 138, with the caption "from a drawing in the possession of John Edward White esq". The drawing later came into the possession of the Earls of Stamford, and is now at Dunham Massey Hall.
