Scope and Content

Copy (in English) of the charter granted by Hamo de Massey of Dunham Massey to the burgesses of Altrincham [in c.1290], granting them a guild of market in the borough free from toll; common of pasture within Dunham, Altrincham and Timperley; housebote and hedgebote in all woods and other privileges; that they shall not be impleaded out of the portmote of the borough; and that they may make unto themselves presidents and bailiffs "by the common council of me or of my bailiffs and of themselves, and that no plea shall be holden or determined in the said borough but before me or my bailiff."

Appended is a list of mayors of Altrincham from 1631 to 1696.

Arrangement

The item derived from original bundle '71', which contained other manorial records; the document was probably compiled at the behest of the court leet.

Acquisition Information

Received from the Altrincham Estate Office on 24 January 1992.
