Extract from Sermon

Scope and Content

Extract from a sermon preached at Bowdon parish church in August 1758, soon after the death of [George Booth (1675-1758), 2nd] Earl of Warrington. The sermon draws upon biblical examples of "eminent virtue" and "horrid impiety" as a warning to the great and powerful to retain a humble sense of dependence on God. There are annotations drawing parallels with the life of George Booth.

Endorsed: "Ld Grey" [George Harry Grey (1737-1819), later 5th Earl of Stamford] on front cover.
