Contains an abstract of the deed for the foundation of the school at Little Heath in Dunham Massey, dated 14 April 1760, whereby George Hunt esq and Thomas Hunt esq, devisees in trust under the will of George Booth 2nd Earl of Warrington, by the direction of Mary Countess of Stamford, conveyed to George Harry Grey (1737-1819) esq, Mary Walton of Dunham Woodhouses to. Dunham Massey widow, Edward Stelfox of Sinderland to. Dunham Massey yeo, and Nathan Pierson of Oldfield Brow to. Dunham Massey yeo, the site for the school to hold for 5000 years in trust to be used as a schoolhouse. The foundation deed also laid down rules for the conduct of the school, admission of pupils, and financial administration.
The first trustees' meeting was held on 8 July 1760. Registers of children attending the school were compiled in 1760 and 1763. At other times the minutes of trustees' meetings record admissions and discharges (with reasons) of pupils. The minutes also record decisions regarding the repair of the building, the purchase of clothing, books, and equipment, and financial affairs. The accounts passed at the meetings show receipts from rents and interest on securities, and expenditure on the schoolmistress's salary, repairs to the fabric of the building, and purchases of books and equipment. Trustees met irregularly, between one and five times a year.
The minutes bear copy signatures, and are not the original minutes.
Entitled "Book No 2" on front cover, perhaps implying this is a second copy.
