Letter and Copy Letter

Scope and Content

Letter from James Thomas Law, vicar of Bowdon, to Lord Stamford (/32). Encloses a copy of a letter sent to Hugo Worthington (/33). Refuses to abandon his claims to the tithes, unless Lord Stamford is willing to concede to the widely expressed wish that the vicar should give up his Easter Dues and receive in return a provision from the church rates. Alternatively, the Easter Dues could continue and the vicar would receive a donation from the parish, or he could receive compensation from Lord Stamford for surrendering his vicarial dues.

Dated at: Bowdon vicarage.
