Bundle of Papers relating to Bowdon Sewage Outfall

Scope and Content

The bundle contains papers relating to the construction of an outfall sewer in Bowdon by Bowdon Local Board of Health, along the line of a new road proposed to be built [but never completed] between Bow Lane and the junction of Ashley Road, Stamford Road and Langham Road in 1893-1894, and to earlier sewerage schemes.

The bundle comprises a notice from Bowdon Local Board of their intention to lay a sewer, with a small plan attached, 1865 (/1); correspondence between Maxwell Roscoe, surveyor at the Stamford Estate Office in Altrincham, and Hugh W. Evason, clerk to the Board, and memorandum of agreement, concerning the leasing of a parcel of glebe land near the River Bollin for a filtration plant, 1877-1882 (/2-8); original and copy correspondence between Maxwell Roscoe and Robert Cocks at the Stamford Estate Office in Altrincham, Hugh W. Evason, and John Newton of Manchester, civil engineer, concerning the proposed outfall sewer, 1893-1894 (/9-13); 3 copies of memoranda on an interview between Maxwell Roscoe, Hugh Evason and Mr [Henry Theodore] Gaddum, chairman of the Board, 1894 (/14-16); and an elevational plan of the outfall sewer from Enville Road to the River Bollin, with details of manholes, 1894.
