Letter from Col. H[enry] Williams, Inspecting Field Officer Salop District, to Lord Stamford (/2), dated 17 July 1803. H.W. has been ordered to take charge of the men raised in Cheshire. Assures Lord Stamford of his readiness to cooperate with him and the civil authorities. Asks Lord Stamford to give direction that H.W. may be furnished with returns of the places where it is proposed the men will be handed over, and the numbers expected at each place, so that officers may be directed to receive them.
Enclosed is a copy (/3) of a letter from Lord Stamford to Williams, dated 24 July. Acknowledges receipt of H.W.'s letter yesterday.
Also enclosed is a copy (/4) of a letter from Lord Stamford to Charles Potts, deputy clerk of the peace, dated 24 July. Forwards a copy of H.W.'s letter and a copy of a letter from [Charles Philip] Yorke, to be laid before the general meeting of the lieutenancy. Wishes to know if all the gentlemen appointed as divisional lieutenants and inspectors have accepted their appointments.
