Encloses a memorial (now missing) from some of the principal inhabitants of Middlewich requesting that C.P. ask Lord Stamford to stop the nomination of officers of the Middlewich Volunteer Corps until the views of the corps can be taken.
Also a copy letter from Lord Stamford to Charles Leicester (/5), dated 9 August. Lord Stamford has not yet sent to Lord Hobart, Secretary of State for War, the offer from the town of Middlewich to renew their services, and awaits C.L.'s further determination.
