Scope and Content

The bundle contains pedigrees and other papers compiled by George Harry Grey (1737-1819), 5th Earl of Stamford, upon his admission to the House of Lords in 1768, in accordance with an order of the House that every peer should furnish a pedigree of his family upon admission. There is a copy of the standing orders of the House of Lords relating to pedigrees (EGR4/1/11/1/1); three copies of Lord Stamford's pedigree (/2-4); a pedigree of the de Grey family of Norfolk (/5); a letter to the Mowbray Herald and queries concerning Lord Stamford's title to the Marquisate of Dorset and Baronies of Bonville and Harington (/6-9); a sheet containing a pedigree showing the descent of the Baronies of Bonville and Harington and a pedigree of Henry Grey, 1st Lord Grey of Groby (/10); and notes on Elizabeth Woodville (/11).

The bundle was found in a wrapper annotated "Papers relative to my | Pedigree" in the hand of the 5th Earl of Stamford.
