Scope and Content

Property: a messuage and tenement in Millington called Booth Bank, and a cottage thereto belonging, with fields called the field at the back of the house, the intack at the bottom of Booth Bank, the Bitter Nails, the Clay Close, the New Field, the Broomy Loont, the Fox Loont and the Acres (3 a. 2 r. 25 p.), purchased by George Harry Grey (1765-1845), 6th Earl of Stamford, from Lazarus Jones Venables of Liverpool esq on 24-25 March 1823, consideration £1948 8s 6d.

The bundle comprises: lease for 3 lives from William Millington of Millington gent to Anthony Venables of Bollington yeo, 1641 (EGR14/1/45/1); feoffment from William Millington of Millington esq and others to John Venables of Millington yeo, with receipt and bond for performance, 1665 (/2-4); settlement on the marriage of Joseph Venables of Oswestry co. Salop gent and Margaret Davies, by conveyance by lease and release from Joseph Venables and Margaret Venables of Millington widow to make tenants to the precipe for the purpose of suffering a common recovery, with an agreement to suffer the recovery and an exemplification of the recovery, 1723-1724 (/5-8); receipt and discharge from the brothers-in-law and sisters of Joseph Venables, 1731 (/9); conveyance by lease and release from Rev Joseph Venables to make a tenant to the precipe etc., with an exemplification of the recovery, 1782 (/10-12); map of the Booth Bank estate, in ink and colour wash on parchment, with scale bar and compass point, scale 1 inch - 66 feet, n.d.
