Scope and Content

This section includes general correspondence (mostly about patients) and correspondence on particular topics. There is other correspondence elsewhere in The Retreat archive. Papers on Land and Buildings, RET 2/2, include correspondence. The section on Housekeeping, Stores and Equipment, RET 4, includes Steward's Correspondence, RET 4/2 and other correspondence on Household matters, RET 4/3, 4/4, 4/5 and 4/6. The section on Establishment, RET 5, includes various series of correspondence on staff at RET 5/1, 5/6, 5/8 and 5/9. The section on Patients, RET 6, includes correspondence by or relating to patients at RET 6/19, 6/20 and 6/21. Correspondence relating to Retreat Annexes and Branches is at RET 7/2/3 (Millfield, York), and RET 7/3/2 (Gainsborough House and Throxenby Hall, Scarborough). RET 8/1 includes correspondence on York Lunatic Asylum and lunacy questions; RET 8/3 includes correspondence on The Lebanon Hospital for the Insane; RET 8/5 includes correspondence on The Yorkshire Association for the Mentally Defective; RET 8/10 includes correspondence relating to Quakers
