26 Clifton was given to the JRMT in 1960 by the York House Improvement Society. Seven flatlets were managed there by the JRMT until 1963 when it was decided to renovate the building and convert it into five larger flats. Planning permission and subsidy problems caused the decision to be changed in July 1965 to conversion to two flats and a maisonette. The alterations were carried out and the new flats were occupied by the end of 1966.
