Harry Creswick Hill (1916-2005) was born in the Heaton area of Newcastle upon Tyne. He was educated at Heaton Grammar School and joined British Paints Ltd in 1932. He married Bessie Louisa Carpenter on 10 January 1943 and had two sons, Robert andDavid. He worked for British Paints his entire working life, becoming a works manager in the late 1950s and later a general manager. He went on to undertake overseas assignments in Nigeria (1967-1971) and Uganda (1978-1981).
