Llanedi Parish and Community Council records

Scope and Content

Includes minutes; correspondence; letter books and letter files; general papers; and financial papers.

Administrative / Biographical History

Civil parish records derive from the parish councils that were established by the Local Government Act in 1894. Civil registration for Wales as well as for England, however, already began in 1837 but from 1894 onwards parish councils became fully responsible for civil administration. Monthly vestry meetings supervised the administration at the parish level. Community councils replaced parish councils under the local government reorganization in 1974.
