This series comprises letters sent to Alan Wace, with a few copies of letters sent in reply, by archaeologists and scholars. Notable correspondents include Sophia Schliemann, Sir Arthur Evans, Carl Blegen, King Gustaf Adolf and Prince Peter of Greece and Denmark. There are over ninety different correspondents. Most letters pertain to archaeological research, discoveries and enquiries. Some correspondence after Alan Wace's death, mostly by his wife and daughter, is also included as it relates to posthumous publications.

Administrative / Biographical History
The letters to Alan Wace were appraised by Elizabeth French and David French in 1962. Only the letters pertaining to archaeology were selected.
Elizabeth French obtained copies of letters sent by Alan to other archaeologists and scholars, such as Sir Arthur Evans, from their archives and has included these copies with her father’s material.
Arrangement
The correspondence files were split between three boxes on arrival at the repository. As original order has been lost, they have been arranged in alphabetical order by the name of the sender, thereafter in chronological order.
