Administrative / Biographical History

J. Wynne Lewis (b. 1920) was the son of Captain J. Owen Lewis (d. 1973) of Moelfre and Amlwch, Anglesey. In 1924, the family moved to Penarth, Glamorgan, and Wynne Lewis attended Penarth County School. In 1937 he started work as a civil servant, at the Board of Trade in London; in 1941 he joined the Royal Navy, serving on HMS Ganges; he then returned to the Board of Trade, moving to the Cardiff office in 1951; in 1966 he moved to the Department of Trade and Industry's North Wales District Office, Colwyn Bay. He retired to Moelfre, Anglesey, investigating the local history of Llanallgo parish and Anglesey and the Welsh language, and writing about Penarth County School. He was a keen theatre-goer, attending many shows at Theatr Fach Llangefni, Theatr Gwynedd, and Benllech. His father, J. Owen Lewis, served in the Merchant Navy, becoming a Captain by 1920.
