Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Relieving officers, each with responsibility for a particular district, had a number of functions, including the administration of outdoor relief. After the abolition of the Boards of Guardians in 1930, the relieving officers continued to carry out their functions under the responsibility of the Public Assistance Committee of Merthyr Tydfil Borough Council (for the area of the Union which lay within the County Borough) and of Glamorgan County Council (for those areas outside the County Borough).
