In spring 1914 Ellen Terry set off on a journey to Australia, where she had been invited to give a series of lectures. The majority of letters in this file contain details on the voyage to Australia and events which happened once she arrived. In August 1914 the First World War broke out and the letters from this date onwards give information on Ellen Terry's reaction to the war and her plans to get back to Great Britain by travelling via North America at the end of 1914. Some of the letters in this file have pages missing.
