This week/This week, next week

Scope and Content

This week originally appeared as a cheaply-produced A5 newsletter in October 1972. As its name suggested, it was produced weekly during the academic session. Originally it comprised four pages of news items and notices. From September 1975 it was produced in A4 format and began to include photographs. In the late 1970s it began to expand in size, eventually consisting of twenty pages of news articles, interviews with University staff and alumni, reports on University departments and features like "Looking back", a series of entertaining articles about the University's history based on archive photographs. In September 1994 the magazine changed its name to This week, next week as a consequence of being published fortnightly. By the late 1990s the magazine had adopted a glossy format with numerous colour photographs. The last issue came out on 9 February 2004, after which it was replaced by Unilife, the magazine of the new unified University of Manchester.
