John Blundell was a member of the Liberal Party of South Africa (LPSA), and Chairman of the Western Cape Defence and Aid Fund from its inception after the arrests during the State of Emergency in 1960 until its proscription in 1965. An Englishman in the country since the early 1950s, Blundell was also banned from the Fund and was deported in 1965 by the apartheid government.
