The papers of Sophia Letitia Barnard represent the last papers related to the Barnard estates of South Cave, including Cave Castle, their family home (earlier papers of the South Cave estates of the Barnard family are catalogued as DDBA). Sophia Barnard had placed her affairs into the hands of Messrs. Crust, Todd and Mills, including the management of her estates on behalf of her daughter after she died.
The papers include an 1890 plan of South Cave, tenancy agreements with the local girls' and boys' schools, tenancy agreements for farms, houses and allotments, a photograph of the memorial stone of Sophia Letitia Barnard and her husband as well as the account for death duties paid on her estate 1910-1913, papers related to the settlement of her will, a 1932 letter from Horsley Smith and Co about shooting rights and poaching at Cave Castle, the 1925 sale catalogue of Cave Castle and the 1938 sale catalogues of miniatures, paintings, porcelain, furniture, carpets, old English and foreign silver and the estate itself. There are a few papers including title deeds, an inventory and a sale catalogue of Ursula Barnard's house in Bournemouth to which she retired in 1925.
Further papers in this series were purchased at auction in 2014 and comprise U DDCV2/54/100-103.
