From Bishopscourt, Rangoon, to Emily Rattenbury at 2 Brayton Gardens, Enfield West, London. They expect to leave here at 7.30 am tomorrow and be in Calcutta at 11, courtesy of a Royal Air Force transport plane.

He has been to a wonderful [unreadable two words] today, with a Buddhist scholar as guide - he seemed to know every brick of every shrine. This has been a tremendous visit to Burma in many ways. Bishop [George Algernon] West and his wife have been kindness personified as have all the others. [George Algernon West: Anglican Bishop of Rangoon 1935-54].

They expect to leave Calcutta on September 1 and reach Kunming via [unreadable word] on the same day. If they achieve this, they will right on schedule which will be fantastic. All the travelling here has been greatly assisted. [Hilda Porter] is doing very well - she seems much better at this than at some other things.

Mr Lockhart is finding the going tough. China missionaries have to be hard.
