From [Wu Shen Miao]. He has paid $350 (Hong Kong) into Emily's account. As far as he can judge the $40 they enquired into was not repaid and he is therefore knocking off the other $60 against the two months maintenance away from home. It will cost him $90 plus light and water etc but will see if he cannot muddle through.

May turned up at tea-time. He has not after all visited Wusuch. He seems a little pensive but will no doubt cheer up after a while.

The weather is warmer today. It is still moist rather than hot, but they have really had a rather pleasant summer so far.

[E. Curtiss] Franklin sails [for China] on October 16th. So the Mission House does not seem to be in any particular hurry. They will be very glad to see him on arrival.

Joy has already got a few beds moved over to the Blind School, and he expects that the move will be complete by the end of the week. The demolition of the old houses can then get under way.

C. C. Tung has finally resigned [from the post of Registrar and Librarian] at Wesley College.

'There is no repudiation of Dr Rattenbury's degree; so I suppose I had better put all the lesser American Universities on my schedule also. Well I do not suppose it matters much. Had he been an Anglican or Scotch divine, he would have had a D.D. donkey's years ago'. [Reference to H B R's brother John Ernest].

H B R and Grace have been getting the estimates for 1930 off today. [Dr Ralph] Bolton and [Ronald Leslie] Upton passed through on Wednesday. There is to be a medical committee on Thursday.
