[H. W. Kenneth] Sandy has come to see his wife - she had a little operation this week. Mrs Barber is to follow next. Miss Milner is to rest for a little while now. It is unclear if there was an old grudge at the bottom of it, or whether it represents a bitter twist to developments. The Wo Fukien ladies appear to have been shot. Chang Hsiah Chen[?] has lost another child. Sunday Schools are beginning to take on another phase here. Katherine [unreadable surname] is showing them how things are done at Chengsha and they are getting ahead at [unreadable name] also. H B R was at the Hung Shen yesterday. It was very beautiful although the temple was full of soldiers and H B R had to skirt around to get there. [Cyril George] Baker is finding more than enough work to do at the hospital. Grace has had a asthma-free holiday at Tsingtau and is having a good autumn. Joan seems to be having a good time.
