'Quoz'

Scope and Content

Between 1955 and 1956 Graves and Alastair Reid maintained a formal correspondence, intended for publication under the title 'Quoz'. The project was finally abandoned after the rupture between the two men; when Beryl Graves considered revisiting it for publication in the 1970s Reid demurred (see correspondence in RG/J/ReidA/File1). The file contains:- [1] Bundle of ms notes of an editorial nature in an unidentified hand (14 leaves); also notes in the hands of Reid (1 leaf folded) and Graves (1 fragment) [2] Ts correspondence between Graves and Reid, with ms annotations, placed in order and paginated (1 to 211); also includes talk given by Reid at Sarah Lawrence College (10 May 1956). [3] Ts (carbon copy) draft, with occasional ms annotations in an unidentified hand, of 'Quoz'. Also two interleaved ms notes, in Graves's hand; the first uses the verso of ts draft, with ms annotations in Graves's and an unidentified hand, of page 3/195 of a book review, beginning "Again, Plot's use of the word Board [...]"; the second is marked "p8". [4] Ts draft, with occasional ms annotations in Graves's and an unidentified hand, of 'Quoz'; with title page, and cover bearing name of Willis Kingsley Wing. [5] Spiral bound photocopy of ts draft [4], with ms note inserted [in the hand of Beryl Graves?].
