Correspondence of Raphael Patai

Scope and Content

Raphael Patai collaborated with Graves on 'The Hebrew Myths' and the bulk of the correspondence in this series concerns the book and associated discussions of Biblical texts and Jewish history and mythology, including 'The Nazarene Gospel Restored' and 'King Jesus'. The series contains: correspondence from Patai to Graves (1948 to 1974); from Patai to Beryl Graves and William Graves (1986 to 1988); copy correspondence from Graves to Patai (1948 to 1962) (also photocopies); also ts copy letter from Patai to Jason Epstein of Doubleday (11 October 1953), copy ts letter H.W.Janson to Patai (6 April 1963), and ts copy letter Berele Berele Soudan to Emmanuel Neumann (4 April 1964). The series also contains a transcript of a discussion between Graves and Patai on the subject of 'The Hebrew Myths' (20 May 1961), and a bundle of ts and ms notes on Hebrew mythology. A printout of Patai's obituary from the 'Electronic Telegraph' (13 September 1996) is also present.
