Scope and Content

The correspondence in this file principally concerns Laura (Riding) Jackson's papers, their physical transfer, and access to material. The series contains: correspondence between Riding and Beryl Graves (1974 to 1979); correspondence between Alan Clark and Beryl Graves (1974 to 1976); correspondence between Riding and Sally Chilver, and Chilver and Beryl Graves (1977); correspondence between Elizabeth Friedman, Riding's biographer, and Beryl Graves (1993 to 1998); transcripts from Riding's correspondence concerning the Cala Road and to her sister, Isabel (1932 to 1933, 4 leaves); correspondence between Cornell University, where Beryl Graves had sent some of Riding's papers and Beryl Graves (1993 to 1998); correspondence between Alan Clark and Michael Schmidt and Beryl Graves and Dunstan Ward, concerning the use of some of Riding's material in the Carcanet edition of Graves's 'Complete Poems' (1998), includes photocopies of ts drafts of 'Midsummer Duet'.
