As Graves's secretary from 1947 to 1965, Karl Gay's correspondence discusses the editing of Graves's work in detail. Correspondence also discusses family news, events in Deyá, mutual acquaintances including Laura Riding, Alan Hodge, Dorothy Simmons, John Aldridge, Carmen Alvarez, Ruthven Todd, Robin Blyth and Will Price. Later correspondence describes his life after moving to work at the State University of New York at Bufallo. Much of the later correspondence is to Beryl Graves. Series includes ms [copy, draft or unsent] letter from Graves to Karl Gay [c 1956], beginning "We were coming out by car [...]" and which goes on to mention the death of his godmother Friefrau von und zu Aufsess; uses verso of page 17 of ts draft, with ms annotations in the hands of Graves and Karl Gay, of Graves's translation of Lucan's 'Pharsalia'.
